Rip downloaded movie purchase from Apple / iTunes?

Apple allows you to download movies you purchased from them onto your PC, etc. Apparently they're locked to only being able to play in the Apple TV app. I tried to open the file in Makemkv, but the file doesn't even appear (.m4v). Is there a way to convert it to play in Plex, VLC etc?

DRM is preventing you from altering Apple obtained .m4v movies.
