Issue: SATA Blu-ray Drive not being Recognized

I’ve got a StarTech USB-C to SATA adapter with a power supply, and I’m trying to connect my Blu-ray drive to it. My MacBook is recognizing the adapter, but as soon as I plug in the drive, it disappears from the system information. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Most newer USB->SATA adapters only handle HDDs and not optical drives. A good one that works is this:
