I have done a backup of a bunch of discs to my NAS. My intention was to rip titles from these backups. Sometimes I am able to. But a lot of the time, the tool hangs. I get messages saying that reads are faster that writes. I'm not surprised since my NAS is basically using RAID5 (a synology variation of it). I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the issues.
Any suggestions on how to work around this? I'd really rather not rip from the discs at this point.

Are you writing the MKV directly to a NAS, external SSD via USB, internal SSD?
Re: makemkv often hangs with ripping from NAS
Assuming you have a 1gbs network connection and are not using NTFS on the NAS, then maybe attach a SSD or NVMe via USB temporarily.
FWIW I use raid-z3 which writes at ~260MB/s and I see the error in the GUI sometimes over 2.5gbs, but it still rips fine.

Ok, I need to make a correction.
It looks like the hangs are temporary. If I let it run long enough, it seems to eventually finish. It is a bit annoying because it takes a lot longer than it should.

I have a SSD connected to my computer where I rip backups to and then make .mkv files from. When I'm happy with the results, I then push them to my NAS.
This is the fastest way I've found to do this stuff and a 1 TB or 2 TB SSD isn't that expensive these days.

Thanks.
I do have several 1TB and 2TB SSDs laying around. But I'm almost done with the process so maybe I won't bother.
Most of the backups are complete. Right now, I'm screen sharing to my desktop Mac from my laptop, watching Tommy Boy in my family room
. I just kick off a rip and let it finish. It's not like I need to be sitting in front of my desktop.

This sounds like the ideal solution.dcoke22 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:16 pmI have a SSD connected to my computer where I rip backups to and then make .mkv files from. When I'm happy with the results, I then push them to my NAS.
