Drive without (or turn off) "Silent Play" or "Quiet Mode"

Currently I have a BE16NU50 drive, this works great on blu-ray, however, not so much on a DVD. I've gone through everything I can think of from windows VM's to try and disable the damn silent play option but am without luck. My reason for writing is if anyone has had any success in disabling these or if someone on a mac is using such a drive that does not have any of those features (or rip-lock features). I would gladly take this drive and smash it on the street for something that doesn't contain such crud.
