Files not being recognized

Post by taketwomake »

Hi, new to MakeMKV and the forums, and trying to upload a m4v file (not a disk), but the software will not open any versions. I am on Mac Sierra 10.12.5, the files are coming from an external HD direct connect via USB and no power cable needed. I've searched the forum for similar issues and didn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

From the makemkv homepage:

Makemkv converts the video clips from a proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way.
Reads DVD and Blu-ray discs
Reads Blu-ray discs protected with latest versions of AACS and BD+

It does not open m4v files.
What are you wanting to do?

If you're trying to convert an M4V file to MKV, you want mkvtoolnix.

If the M4V files have Apple's digital rights management on them, you would also need a tool to strip that out.

Ok thanks for the replies, I thought it could do discs and files. Yeah, I have video files that I want to use on other devices. Any stripping tools you could recommend?

Maybe someone will chime in - I don't buy anything from Apple, so I have no experience with their DRM.
