.MKV to .M4V

Post by chazmangus »

I've been ripping Blu-Ray Movies with the inattention on watching them on my Apple TV in HD I've been looking closely at the Movies apple sales, bit rate and size etc. So far the best thing i have found that works about 95% of the time is to Encode it using Handbrake however, i can't get the chapter markers to move over it sees only one chapter.

Has anyone resolved this or came up with the best settings to use to convert .mkv to .m4v to playback on the Apple TV in HD?

Any ideas how to encode .mkv anything else and keep the chapter markers?

havent tried it, but the first thing i'd try is use the same thing as u did, handbrake. anyway if they dont play on the atv use the hd hd tv media center and it will work perfectly and it's also much cheaper. i believe that the chapters are there too.

Yes, it's quite easy.

1. Rip with Make MKV.
2. Download the Handbrake 2592 svn: http://handbrake.fr/?article=snapshot
3. Open the m2ts file you want to transcode in Handbrake 2592.
4. Select the Apple TV preset.
5. Change the Picture to 1280 by whatever.
6. Set the framerate to 24 fps.
7. Set bit rate to 5000 for the video.
8. Click on the Audio tab and if the source is AC3, leave as is; if it's DTS, disable track 2.
9. Click Start.

When done you should have an Apple TV-compliant m4v with chapter markers.

2592 doesn't seem to be available at this time. Does anyone know where one could find it? Or do we need to wait for the next build of HB?

Hi, mkv newbie here. Sorry for any redundant queries.

So, using makemkv I've ripped a BD to my Mac Pro at 33GB.
It plays fine in VLC.
I want to burn it back to a single layer BD for playback on my PS3.

I tried Toast 10 default settings for BD. Besides taking forever, it squeezed the video up into the top half of the screen and had no audio.
Anyone have any hints on a proper workflow?

Thanks in advance,
Pead

Use tsMuxER to create AVCHD disc. You don't even need to burn it, PS3 plays AVCHD from USB media.
