External Drive Stops part way through RIP

I have a Asus drive in an external enclosure. I put a disc in and load up MakeMKV and all is well. Randomly through the rip it will stop reading and eventually give an error. POSIX error OS error. Something to that effect. It does it on BluRays, and DVD's. And it does it randomly. Some times right after I start them and sometimes they almost finish. I have tried different enclosures and cables. These are powered enclosures. I can also unplug the cable from my Mac and plug it into my linux machine and rip just fine. Same discs and cables. Never fails. just on Mac OS. Something that I have noticed is if the drive is just sitting idle. Mac OS will activate it and try and read it randomly. Like every 5-10 minutes or so. Disc or no Disc. Very odd. And I think that has something to do with it but I don't know what going on. ANY IDEAS!
