Troubleshooting help - Pioneer BD-RW BDR-XD05

I have a pioneer BD-RW BDR-XD05 that I am having trouble getting to read anything at all. The makemkv app see the drive but when it starts reading the disc nothing happens and after about 30 sec the drive cover pops open and the app just says no disc inserted. I feel like Im losing my mind. Any help or advice?

I am having the same issue. This drive was working great before. I am currently running MakeMKV 1.12.2 on Mojave and firmware 3.10 on the Pioneer drive. Every once and awhile I can get it to use direct access mode. Anyone have an idea what is going on? Or how I can force MakeMKV run in direct mode?

UPDATE: I upgraded to 1.12.3 and still have the problem.
