Conversion to Apple Lossless?

Post by randy4 »

Hi,

tried to modify an existing xml so that MakeMKV converts to Apple Lossless, but when I start MakeMKV I get the error "Profile parsing error: output format invalid". Is it an error on my side or does MakeMKV not support ALAC at the moment? It would be great if it's possible to convert to ALAC instead of FLAC.

Aren't all the ALAC encoders at least partly based on Apple code? Is MakeMKV the kind of program that should have Apple code in it? I'm not saying no, it would be nice, but it is a worrying thought.

As far as I know ffmpeg does encode/decode ALAC (Apple Lossless).

Cool then.

-Edit- Is there a better search engine than google to search for these kind of things, every time I search for codecs or anything useful it always brings up a bunch of completely useless crap.

MakeMKV can't do this yet. I'm not even aware if you can put ALAC into MKV file.

I believe you can mux ALAC into MKV, but some players will fail to demux ALAC during playback.

Best to manually convert FLAC into ALAC. I'm not sure it is a good idea to include Apples' code into MakeMKV.
