Hello,
I get no sound when I ripped these two Criterion blu rays, "12 Angry Men" and "The 39 Steps" (for the latter, I only got the sound on the audio commentary but none on the two films). I've ripped other blu rays and had no problems with the sound. Is it a "Criterion-related" problem? Is the fact that Criterion blu rays are "Region A" a problem?
Thanks a lot for your help
My system:
Mac OS X 10.7.5
3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
4GB 1333 MHz RAM
I use VLC to play the ripped blu rays

Re: No sound when ripping Criterion blu rays
Nobody? I guess this problem with Criterion blu rays can't be an isolated problem, can it? ; )
Thanks
Thanks

Re: No sound when ripping Criterion blu rays
This is a vlc issue. Best to raise it with them.
You can also rip with the FLAC profile in makemkv which so far as I know will convert LPCM to FLAC which will work in VLC

Re: No sound when ripping Criterion blu rays
Thanks. I'll try that. Anyway, I'm not sure if it's only a VLC issue. I also have another Mac blu ray player and no sound either.crowfax wrote:This is a vlc issue. Best to raise it with them.

Re: No sound when ripping Criterion blu rays
I have 12 Angry Men and it ripped without issue. As Crowfax mentioned, VLC doesn't handle the LPCM codec used on Criterion releases, so those soundtracks need to be converted to another format. I recommend FLAC since it saves a lot of space and keeps the audio lossless.

Thanks. One Criterion film that ripped with no issues is "Brief Encounter." I'll try ripping with the FLAC profile. Anyway, do you know if those Criterion blu rays will play on a TV? I still have no cable to connect my iMac to the TV and it would be great if I don't have to re-rip them againWondercow wrote:I have 12 Angry Men and it ripped without issue. Re: No sound when ripping Criterion blu rays
Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered in another thread, but I am having the same problem as OP. Anytime I rip a Criterion title, I do not get sound. The 3 titles i have tried are The Lady Vanishes, Yojimbo and Rashomon. I saw in one of the responses that you could switch the profile to a FLAC profile and that should resolve. However, I don't seem to be able to accomplish switching to the FLAC profile.
Your assistance is appreciated.
