Problems w/1st rip/backup (DVD content)

Post by marcador »

Hello everybody,

MMKV was recommended to me by a friend; thus it has a cosy space on my HDD now...

However, I've run into some problems & weird behaviour - turning to y'all to ask for your kind help.

FYI, relevant tec-data:
a) PC: Apple Silicon M3pro chipset (11/14cores, FWIW) -> ext. Apple SuperDrive (DVD+R-DL HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX50N RR06 KX1E9M33045d)
b) OS: macOS 26.4 "DaHoe" (most recent release)
c) MMKV: is V1.18.3/darwin arm64 (should be most recent, too?) / eval. exp. 1 April & version exp. 21 May

Problems:
1. VLC & Handbrake integrations ain't working: Exactly as described in another thread (quote below); VLC is most recent (3.23 'vetinari').
2. MAIN GRIPE: I cannot create a backup of a movie DVD: MMKV loads disc-data OK, .iso won't work though ->
2.1 MMKV produces several error-messages (in MMKV main window) of corrupt files, but keeps on writing the .iso...
2.2 ...until it breaks down saying not much more than: "backup could not be created"...
2.3 Xtra strange: Every appr. 10-20sec, the DVD-app opens & starts to display the movie's main menu...?!

FWIW, never did I have as many problems before to rip a DVD... but then again, this is my 1st (and most probably, my last!) Macbook, and I'm still new to this entire Apple-thing (which mainly seems to consist of trying to keep me away from actually working with the system... feels like jail...).

In advance, I do thank y'all for taking the time to read this & any helpful thoughts/measures suggested!
OFC, if you need any further info, just let me know.

With a disc loaded in MKV I can open the preferences and then click in the tab for integration. I then select the box for VLC and click apply.

I get a dialogue box asking for my admin password which I enter. The dialogue box disappears but the settings are not changed. The blue tick for VCL disappears and if I close the preferences and re-open them the integration with VLC is still not checked. This is confirmed when I try to play a Bluray in VLC and I get the error. "This Blu-ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it."

MacOS has settings to control what it does when you insert a DVD or a CD. For video DVDs I have mine set to 'ignore' so the DVD app doesn't start. Probably by default it is set to open the DVD app.

Choose what your Mac does when you insert a CD or DVD

Please post MakeMKV's log output. It is easier for people to make suggestions if they can see MakeMKV's actual logs.
