New Mac User-Rippiong .iso not .mkv

Post by Crystal »

I am completely new to Macs, and this is the first time setting up Make MKV on a Mac as well.

When backing up a disc it will only back it up as .iso not .mkv.

Am I missing a setting or advanced setting in the system somewhere (either in the application or the Mac) that is causing it to do this?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

MakeMKV will not "back up" a disk as an ISO, so the question becomes what are you using to make ISOs?

MakeMKV's backup function creates an file structure that matches the content of the disk, but it isn't an ISO. The normal opening of a disk creates the MKV files of the disks's contents, in a non-ISO format.

If you're getting ISO files, your running something other than MakeMKV.

The most current version can create ISO backups from DVDs, but not from BluRays.

If you want to make MKVs from a DVD, don't click on backup but on the big button beneath it in the main window to open the DVD.

I'll try that when I get home later today, and let you know. Thank you!

Thats what it was... I keep forgetting that Mac has the File options permanently at the top of the screen, not the application. Haha. It was just File>Open disc>Click on disc>Click on the Make MKV button.

Thank you Ezatoka for the help!
