The bin will install fine. The oss package will not. make fails as shown below:
Ubuntu 12.04LTS amd64, have been able to compile MakeMKV on this same box for years.

Rerun the command and make sure your packages are up to date. I had a similar issue to you and realised my dependencies needed updating.

I forgot to mention the build packages were already up to date before I started and I just double checked.

I also was just able to build the 1.8.5 oss package without errors on the same box. Curiously, I tried 1.8.6 on a fresh VM and it compiled and installed fine. I think I have a conflicting version of something.

I haven't been able to build 1.8.5 or 1.8.6 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. My thread was met with instructions based on Mac OSX. I haven't a clue where to find dump files to help devs figure things out.

The fact of the matter is that makemkv-1.8.6 needs very recent ffmpeg. 1.2 does not work, 2.1 does. I am not sure about 2.0.

1.2 should work in a sense that it will compile and work, but flac encoder will be locked to 16 bit. Do you by any chance still have setup with 1.2 libraries that gives compilation error?

I don't unfortunately, as I upgraded to fedora 20 for this very reason. It was failing with something about avcodeccontext. I can set up a fedora 19 vm if needed.
