I just activated a new licence, will I be able to use my key to when I upgrade to win7? ( I know its been a long time but vista has been working fine).

Yes.
Opinion: Upgrade to Win7 soon, while you can still buy it. Worth it from Vista.

Actualy I have a licence & copy of 7 just havent got around to installing it yet, need to research bios updates first.
