Just outlining my experiences with this software, as encouraged to do so.
Ripped my one bluray disk (predator) successfully, after the disk itself with other apps appeared to have modified my bluray drive to make other packages such as dumphd with libaccs non-working.
My equipment is a laptop asus ns53v with intel i9 core 4 core 8 gig of ram, with integrated nvidia graphics with 1 gig of video ram.
The system by default uses intel graphics, but nvidia graphics can come in if explicitly commanded.
I am running ubuntu 12.04 LTS with bumblebee stuff to manage the hybrid graphics. Any graphics program that would use the higher-performing nvidia graphics needs to be started with the optirun command.
Ripping the disk took about 1 hour 20 minutes, from memory. Probably about 2-3 hours of playback material.
I tried to get the direct read and play happenning. Basically I used the command:
optirun makemkvcon --upnp=1 --cache=128 stream disc:0&
to start the server process, and the client (after a couple of minutes):
vlc http://localhost:51000/stream/title0.ts
The picture did come, but was very cut up, with audio chopped up into half second segments.
I have given up with direct read and play. Oh well, looks like I'll just have to rip anything I want to watch. mmmmm.
The tarball installs have no uninstall option, and should really install to /usr/local as they are not under package management.
Couldn't find where exactly on this website how to purchase this product. Would be happy to do so, for $50.
As a bit of a novice with this technology I was unaccustomed to the initial wait necessary for the software to read the bluray disk initially. My experience with DVD's made me expect this to be fairly rapid. So I was confused that the initial makemkv screen did not appear to be the same as in the help screenshots. Of course the documentation does mention waiting, but a bit buried.
Thats all I can think of. Thanks for the product. Definitely does 98 percent of what I want.
