Newbie Linux directions

OK, first off I humbly apologize for not knowing basic Linux stuff. I've been a Linux user for several years, but have managed to avoid learning the skills that would allow me to install MakeMKV.

Using the stickied directions, I downloaded the glibc, qt4, etc. packages and installed them. Then d/l'ed the two bin.tar.gz & oss.tar.gz packages. Extracted them to the desktop.

Then the sticky says to do this: "starting from source package do the following steps for each package:" and there are two lines of code underneath.

Could someone please explain as if for the first time: once I have the two packages extracted to my Desktop, what are the next steps to install? How do I run those two lines of code so that they do the right things to the two extracted packages?

OK, never mind, I fumbled thru some older links and got it to work. I took notes before my feeble brain lost it. So how does this work? I can pay $50 and buy a key? I'll be wiping Ubuntu 10.04 sooner or later and installing a newer version. I wouldn't have to buy a new key, right?

Or uninstall & re-install every month? Are those the two options?

As long as you still have your key it should work on a new installation.
