No Dash icon in Gnome/Debian 13

Debian 13 is using Wayland rather than XWayland, so only a default icon is showing in the Gnome Shell panel. MakeMKV doesn't appear to have a WMClass so editing the .desktop file doesn't work.

You can't put any icons on Gnome's top panel.
You can drag & drop to Dash.

Sorry. I'm using an extension. D'oh!

But the same applies to the App/Window switcher. Only a default icon.

Just on idea. Have you try to update icon cache?

I tested MakeMKV 1.18.2 on Debian 13 Gnome (Vanilla)
And there wasn't makemkv icon. Just some weird gear logo with MakeMKV text under it.

I update icon cache and icon appears.

gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor

Ok, I tried that but no change. Oddly too is that the App switcher shows "Unknown" as the name.

The icon and name does show correctly in the Apps grid but no running app dot (when running of course).

No, it's Rocket Bar. But disabling extensions completely makes no difference.

The problem exists in Gnome's App switcher and in the Dash. The same issue applies to Transmission. I fixed Transmission by adding:

Code: Select all

StartupWMClass=com.transmissionbt.transmission_66307_40115421
... but MakeMKV doesn't seem to have a WMClass. At least, using Looking Glass (LG) reports "null".

With Debian 13, Wayland requirements for this type of thing need to be done differently compared to Debian 12 as Wayland no longer supports X (or something like that).

I think i see it now. :)

I installed that "Rocket Bar" extension. Looks nice.
It shows right away icons that i have on DASH. MakeMKV too.
But Transmission logo. It acting weird on Rocket bar and DASH.
When i open Transmission. RB and DASH shows that gear icon with a dot.

When i log out and change from Wayland to X11, all icons, bars dashes etc... works as they should.
I don't know how to fix it. Maybe someone on Debian User Forums knows.
Bug in Debian/Gnome/Wayland, don't know.
