Older Asus bc-12b1st issues

Greetings,

A bit of a newb here. Built out an older Xeon workstation as a Jellyfin server with a fresh install of Ubuntu. Downloaded MakeMKV and was able to rip some DVDs with the internal Asus M-Disk drive. I mostly want to rip Blurays so I picked up an older Asus bc-12b1st and installed it. I can mount it in Ubuntu and explore files on the disk, but if I start MakeMKV with a disk in the Bluray drive it will keep trying to read the disc and MakeMKV will be stuck. The weird thing is, if I launch MakeMKV with a DVD in the non Bluray drive, it recognizes the disk. Then if I insert a Bluray in the bc12b1st drive MakeMKV will recognize the disc. Any tips on alleviating this situation?

Also, I believe I'm being riplocked at 2x on this drive. Is there a firmware update to remove this? Pretty dang slow.

Thanks for all your help,
Travis

I can mount it in Ubuntu and explore files on the disk, but if I start MakeMKV with a disk in the Bluray drive it will keep trying to read the disc and MakeMKV will be stuck.
For this part, it's possible that gnome's automounter is trying to access the bluray drive at the same time, which could cause MakeMKV to time out and not detect the disc.

You can try disabling gnome's automounter with these commands. Keep in mind that changing this setting will also affect other drives like USB storage.

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount-open false
