I am on a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04 server. I installed makemkv via the forum documentation and then also tried using a third part repo. Each time when I tried to run the makemkv command I got the following error:

makemkv: cannot connect to X server

I also tried to do a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04 but am still getting the above error. I am not an Ubuntu/Linux expert and don't know where to start to resolve the issue. I followed the install guide to the letter... Does anyone know how to resolve this.

Maybe you are running makemkv under another user than your graphical dektop. E.g. you are in a graphical desktop logged in as "user" and try to run makemky as root.

Or you are running as "root" completely - I think this will not work. You have to be logged in as "user".

After doing a little more digging I found that I was using the makemkv command instead of the makemkvcon. When I used the second it seems to work.
