Hello, Registered user here. I am trying to upgrade to 1.15.0 from 1.14.7 but cannot due to an error.

I am using this guide https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224
As far as I know I have QT5 installed (I have QT Creator installed and updated)

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-get install build-essential pkg-config libc6-dev libssl-dev libexpat1-dev libavcodec-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libqt4-dev zlib1g-dev
[sudo] password for user:

Code: Select all

checking for qt5... no
configure: error: Qt library (version 5) is required to build GUI
Starting with 1.15.0 building with qt4 is no longer supported. You just need to install qt5.

I've freshly installed QT5 Creator, configured gcc, and done all the normal things on this, yet am still getting the error the OP mentioned above. The output still shows me "checking for qt5... no". Is there a particular library that needs to be installed that isn't part of the normal QT5 installation?

Did you install the QT5 developer files? Just installing the binary libraries does not install the header files to compile against. Those would be in the -dev or -devel packages (depending on your Linux distribution).

I'm having the same issue on Linux Mint 19.3, where MakeMKV 1.14.4 compiled fine, but 1.15 is failing about Qt5 not being installed, though the same libqt5{core5a,dbus5,gui5,widgets5} are still installed.There is no -devel package for these. I have all packages explicitly listed on https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 installed.

After a little digging around, looks like qtbase5-dev is required.

Turns out installing the main QT installer from their website didn't give me what I needed on Ubuntu Mate 19.10. I found a tutorial from 2016 with the following installs. Once performing these installs, I was successful in upgrading to 1.15.0:

sudo apt-get install qtcreator
sudo apt-get install qtdeclarative5-dev
sudo apt-get install g++

So, it looks like once a pretty basic QT5 install is complete, run those commands to get the distribution's extras. Hope this helps someone else out there!

for Ubuntu 19.10, i simply exchanged
libqt4-dev with qtbase5-dev
of the sudo apt install instruction of https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224
and everything went fine.

EDIT: changed qtdeclarative5-dev to qtbase5-dev, even this is working already
