Can't Find Optical Drives after upgrade to 1.16.7

I've looked over the other posts with this error and haven't yet found a remedy.

I was using MakeMKV when I hit a DVD that couldn't rip (running 1.16.4). Since sometimes a newer version has better luck, I upgraded to 1.16.7 but now get the error that it can't find any optical drives.

I tried to revert back to 1.16.4, but now I get the same error there too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible the operating system is hiding drive from you. Are you running the newly-installed version as root, by chance, or as an individual user?

Ah, yeah as I poke around more, my computer generally seems to be having issues talking to my optical drive. I can't open a disc with VLC, and even trying to eject doesn't work. I guess I have to go digging and hope my drive didn't die.
