Request: Better error if permission denied

I was trying to back up a disc onto my new HDD today, and having just formatted it, I'd forgotten to chown it to me. However, the error message was far from helpful, and it took me a good 20 minutes to realise what was wrong - it just says "Backup Failed" with no extra detail or help. Any chance of this error message being made more descriptive? Even a generic "check that you have write permissions" message would be more helpful.
