registration key expired after 1 day

I downloaded v1.7.9 for linux and installed it under linux mint (~Ubuntu). It worked flawlessly yesterday. today it says:
MakeMKV v1.7.9 linux(x86-release) started
This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com or enter a registration key to continue using the current version.

i tried adding:
app_Key = "T-1cVHcNIWwEOPuCZ8uvXH9ezbBCkenADk54ARAbW27QH7f75v24Vk4kShxjmCH3rQEA"

I tried removing update.conf and re-installing; Nothing works. Please forgive me if i am missing the obvious somehow.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just an FYI, resetting the system clock to Dec 31 2012 temporarily solves the issue.

Did you use the registration key that is in the "MakeMKV is free while in beta" message in the Announcements board?

Also, version 1.7.10 was released yesterday, which already has the updated beta key.
