Hello together,
I recently walked away from Windows on all my computers also on my multimedia/home theater PC. However, I would still like to be able to watch the Blu-ray discs I have purchased. For that purpose, I installed makeMKV. However, it does not work. At first, I thought the reason might be my rather old Blu-ray drive (LG BH10LS30). So I bought an Asus BW-16D1HT, but the result is exactly the same, even with DVDs.
As already mentioned, my motivation for makeMKV is only to watch the Blu-ray discs that I have purchased on a Linux PC maybe there is another way instead of using makeMKV to do this, this would also be an option for me.
What happens is, I insert the disc and it starts spinning.
MakeMKV says “Loading...” “Please wait,” but nothing else happens, even after minutes.
I was able to get a debug log from it with makemkvcon info disc:0 --debug

and here it stops
I have already downloaded sdf.bin, which I have read about several times as a tip, but unfortunately nothing has helped so far.
I am using a fairly new installation of Linux Debian 13, do I need to configure something on my Linux installation. I already spent some time for investigation but couldn't find a solution yet.
Can anyone here help me, please?

hi there,
Thats weired, i also run makeMKV on Debian 13, and i have no problem at all. It just works as it should.
Have you installed makeMKV direct from the link from the forum ?
I did it as follow. i took the 1.8.2 link from the forum, used the guide by downloading the files and started the installation as mentioned.
And after that i was able to use it just normal.

Thank you very much for the information, I tried it out right away. However, version 1.17.7 tells me it is to old and I am asked to download the current version.16442496 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 6:06 amIt's a feature on MakeMKV. (MakeMKV v1.17.7 (15.5.2024)

It's unbelievable that the problem has been around for more than 1.5 years and still hasn't been fixed.
However it seems to work on some machines when I go through the posts in the link you have provided.
