1.18.2 fixed the problem for me
Re: MakeMKV above v1.17.7 still broken on Linux
Pretty sure I'm getting bitten by the same thing. I'm building a headless server, ... but I don't have the sources / binaries at my disposal to try to build 1.17.6 or a "known working" version.
Drive is a Pioneer BD-XD07, and when I run from the CLI this happens (debug log). This is outputted and then it just hangs forever.

Re: MakeMKV above v1.17.7 still broken on Linux
To the Dev's, Can you please roll back the current release back to 1.17.1 for linux specifically for Ubuntu and the Ubuntu store. Or drop a dot Deb file of the 1.17.1 .The current version 1.18.1 and 1.18.2 absolutely does not work no matter what is changed. I have done fresh installs of Ubuntu 24.04 and 25.10 over and over and added CD-Rom groups ect. I have Installed 1.17.1-1.18.2 via the terminal with apt install and snap install. I have installed via the Ubuntu store and even compiled from source.
I went as far back as 1.17.1 and nothing is working any more. Installing an older version always shoots erros that the version I am using is too old. current versions just hang and do nothing like I am just looking at a freeze frame picture of the program. On one of the releases it never gets passed downloading sdk?
I even attempted terminal commands such as -
"sudo snap connect makemkv:optical-write" and
"sudo snap connect makemkv:removable-media" to no avail.
The craziest thing is it work beautifully in Windows so I know the drive works. Any help would be amazing and thanks for your consideration.

I know you're not likely to buy a key since you're having trouble with it, but if you use a paid-for key for MakeMKV, you can use any old version of the program you want without an error about using an old version.Retromovieman wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 7:13 pmI went as far back as 1.17.1 and nothing is working any more. Re: MakeMKV above v1.17.7 still broken on Linux
Thanks, but I already purchased a paid for version years ago. The problem is that when I install anything prior to 1.17.7 it complains about the version being to old then app crashes out and pops up with that message so I am unable to even enter any keys.
Crazy enough I was able to get 1.18.2 working on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS but only following every single step from top to bottom including the extra steps towards the bottom of the page just to be safe on the "How to install on Linux" main page. I copy and pasted every line into the terminal and compiled the latest version and went into apps settings and changed the makemkv setting to allow both read and write from CDROM/DVD and SSD. For some reason there were 2 of those identically named settings but one was turned off.
Now all is working perfectly well again knock on wood. Hopefully my experience can help others that are unable to get this app working to actually work too.
