MakeMKV FLAC Rip

Post by K@mpfH@mster »

Hi, I downloaded the flatpak version of MakeMKV. It works generally but if I select the FLAC preset it stops after several minutes without doing/creating anything. It works with DEFAULT so i guess it has something to do with Flac converting.

MakeMKV uses ffmpeg underneath to do audio conversion. On the Windows and Mac versions of MakeMKV, a tiny version of ffmpeg ships with the binary. On Linux, it uses whatever ffmpeg is on the system. There are all kinds of reports of trouble with MakeMKV using ffmpeg 6. This interaction between MakeMKV and ffmpeg is most likely the root cause of the behavior you're seeing.

For me locally I fixed it by shipping ffmpeg 4.4.4 with the flatpak, made a pull request for it, which should contain a link to test the change, in case you don't want to wait for a merge:
