@mike: maybe this will help you fix the problem?

I don't think people just posting that they have the problem also is very helpful. I imagine Mike will get the idea at this point.

In my view, it doesn't make sense to simply assume what Mike knows.
I've learned that assumptions in general cause more problems than they solve.

While people simply posting that they are affected may not seem like it helps, it gives Mike a sense for how many of his customers are affected, which can tangentially help reach a solution down the road.

Until this project uses a proper platform to manage communications that can differentiate between general issues like documentation or "this specific disc isn't properly recognized" and technical issues like this, this is the only way to report problems. I would love an issue tracker and even a way to submit pull requests for the open part of the code, or whatever.

There is no value in "a few people reported a problem so the developer gets the idea, so just wait". That's just silly. In 2022 we have decades of precedence for how to manage open(ish) projects. If all we have is phpBB, then I would encourage anyone having this problem to post it, since that is the only way to provide feedback.

Maybe that will prompt Mike to move this project into the 21st century where the community can actually help with the project instead of being helpless.

Yeah. Of all the software I wish was totally open source, this is at the top of the list. I don't understand why it isn't, when he essentially makes it free anyway. Ironically I'd totally donate $50 to the project if it was open source. But no way I'm paying money for something that could disappear in a day and my money would be lost. The glory of open source is great projects that are abandoned almost always get forked and revived.

100% ACK
First of all I want to say hello to this community. I only registered to let the developer know, that I can confirm this bug under Arch Linux.

Me too, Mnajaro/XFCE, glibc 2.36-2, same as @pipo233.

While a bit off-topic, I do echo the sentiments of others who'd donate (even beyond the license I purchased on 2015-05-04) to see this fully opened and with a proper bug/issue tracker. I can only imagine the leaps and bounds that this tool would make with community contributions...

Go ahead and buy a license - it's worth it. If the project disappeared tomorrow, your money would not be lost, because you would be rewarding the project for whatever benefit it has already brought you. Think of it as an act of gratitude, not an investment in the future.

That said, while I am extremely grateful for this project, I also find the status quo extremely frustrating. That's why I occasionally make some noise while trying not to be a complete dick about it. This tool is simultaneously one of the most useful and most frustrating I have ever encountered.

You all have valid points about this project not being open source
It would be great if this project goes to github or others and have a proper issue tracker.

But i think that mike deliberate keeps everything to himself for legal punishments? makemkv isn't exactly legal so that may be the reason?

I don't need the project to be fully open-source (though I would be happy if there were a contingency plan should things go south). I'm happy with the secret-sauce binary blob model as long as it doesn't spy on me or goes fallow. I understand the "first rule of fight club" nature of the project. That's important to consider. But my guess is most people interested in this project just want to view their media in a modern way that doesn't include putting a disc in the BD player to view a movie or tv show. I don't want to start a piracy farm or whatever, I just want to view the stuff I have legitimate access to (and it is legitimate) in a modern setting.

That is the real value of this project. I just want to use the media I have available to me by legitimate means in a way that is convenient to me. So I don't know why it has to be so painful.

I suppose I'm a bit strange. I don't mind using my discs to view my media -- and I actually prefer that rather than using tons of disk space. For me, the value of MakeMKV is the ability to watch my BD discs on Linux, since every other method I tried failed miserably. Ripping the discs is an added bonus, plus the ability to view the titles/chapters for discs that play out of order sans menus.

What I'm concerned about now is that there hasn't been a response or acknowledgement since glibc 2.36. I completely understand that these things take time to fix... I'm fine with that, but a simple "Hey I'm aware of the issue and am working on it" would go a long way.
Did I flush $60 down the toilet? I sure hope not.

Yeah, it is frustrating that we've spent money on this and get less response than most completely-free projects would give us. Also it's a little annoying that Mike has been (slightly) active on the boards since I reported this issue, so it's not like he's dealing with some personal issue that's taking all of his time. Like you say, just an acknowledgement would be nice.

Is there a work around, such as running a different distribution and/or version in a VM?

The guys over here seem to indicate that flatpak, snap, and even downgrades of glibc are workable (for them) options.
