Ice Age 4 3D strange 3d format

I bought the multi-disc blu-ray 3D version of this for my son for Christmas (10 euro more than normal 2d bluray version) and trying to put 3d version on movie server but seems to be problem. The movie ripped without error but when i play it, it starts right in middle of movie and movie length is only 1.15 long. The actual full movie is supposed to be 84mins.
On the 3d disc there are 3 title big enough to be film but only one of the contains an MPEG4-MVC-3D track - this is the one i ripped and is 22.6Gb.
The other two are 25.3Gb each and say (angle 1) and (angle 2) after them but they just have MPEG4 video.
I notice the segment map on the 3D track says 1205/1206 while the other two say 1207,1205/1206,1211 and 1208,1205/1206,1212
So how do I rip the 3D version of movie and tell it to play all segments? - it looks like segments 1207 or 1208 and 1211 and 1212 are needed for start and end of film? So first short version I ripped is dummy. Also what is the angle 1/2 stuff about on the 3D disc? Is it supposed to play both 25Gb angles and blu-ray player combines them somehow to make 3d in player?

ps. i just had a look at the 2d disc and its even worse. 6 versions of film all exactly 19.2Gb in size, angle 1,2,3 and angle 1,2 and 3 of them with segments maps of length 40 and 3 of length 42. Looks like they're making it as hard as possible to rip this.

This is certainly a confusing disc to rip the 3D movie from, I am right now attempting to use the two angels of that 5th playlist as left and right with stereoscopic player and see how it goes.

It's weird alright - the entire film is definitely not on the disc in MPEG4-MVC-3D format. Looks like they are combining the angles somehow. Is this a new copy protection scheme or what?

I did some more testing, those two angles for playlist 0800.mpls are both the same and if you use stereoscopic to treat them as left and right you just get a 2D picture.
Here is what is odd, the disc in the STREAM/SSIF folder has all the 3D versions of the streams in the segment map, namely angle1 1207,1205,1211 and angle2 1208,1205,1212, the difference seems to be that angle1 has popup boxes above characters names showing the voice actors in the credits and angle2 doesnt as best I can tell. These three SSIF files played consecutively in stereoscopic yields the movie in 3D playback from files, albeit with all the other audio and subtitles that we don't need.
In any case, playlist 600 according to makemkv only has the middle stream, as does bdedit and bdinfo when i look at the disc. I turned debug on and loaded the disc again and noticed this interesting gem:
Code: Select all
File 00251.mpls was added as title #3
File 00302.mpls was added as title #4
DEBUG: Code 1206 at MH93*RwG]!>}hURej:121266235
File 00600.mpls was added as title #5
File 00800.mpls (angle 1) was added as title #6
File 00800.mpls (angle 2) was added as title #7
Note the error just before parsing 00600.mpls? Maybe there is a playlist that has all 3 MVC streams but somethings odd and so it skipped it? Hopefully Mike has a look in to it.

This is the "plain" main movie. Two numbers separated by slash (xxx/yyy) mean a single 3d-segment where the first number is name of M2TS file for 2D content and second number is the name of 3D extension.

This is same as above, but has a small opening scene (1207.m2ts) and ending (1211.m2ts) . Probably a logo and credits.

Same as above, but different M2TS files for logo and credits. My guess is that it's another language.

Mike,
The segment you said was the "plain" movie is in fact the bulk of the movie, except for the opening sequence (scrat running around) and ending (bulk of the credits 8mins), in any case with that file alone you are missing content it starts abrubptly in the middle of a scene.
Playlist 00600 is 3D but
doesnt include the first ~4mins or the last ~8mins. Playlist 00800 angle 1 and angle 2 are 2D only (see image below, which is 00600, 00800 angle 1 and 00800 angle 2 expanded).
In any case,I don't know why but this blu-ray has a full 3D movie on it which cannot be ripped to a MVC included MKV for some reason.
The files are there (01207.SSIF+01205.SSIF+01211.SSIF) on the disc and if I lift them off and join them together using other software then I have a 3D file I can play back no problem in stereoscopic player but it still has all the other languages and full DTS HS that I don't really want.

Its a bug in MakeMKV then.
Please send all CLPI and MPLS files from this disc per instructions at /faq/item/8/catid/6 . Also please send all names (only names, not the files itself) of all SSIF files on this disc.

I'll do this when I get a chance, unless someone else does it before me...

Didn't hear anything since I sent the files he was looking for. Most likely busy fixing other discs...

This disc is special, it's the only disc that none of the main ripping software can rip 3D properly off, anydvd, dvdfab as well as makemkv do not present a playlist to be able to rip the main movie in 3D.
There is a bonus disc that is in the same boat (Ice Age Mammoth Christmas 3D).

I guess they REALLY don't want it copied. :-0
