This is an internal drive, so you're saying it's a disc issue, correct? I haven't tried the disc on another drive yet, but I suppose I can do that to confirm. If you're using a USB-powered drive, the most likely cause is that the drive is being spun up faster than the power available can support. The drive resets, and the operating system thinks it is off line.
For internal drives, the most likely cause is the drive is trying "too hard" to read a bad sector. While it is trying to get valid data, it stops talking to the OS, and the OS thinks it is off line.
The fact that MakeMKV continues on says that, eventually, it was able to read some of the problematic sector(s), then it hit an area where the drive couldn't read it.
