Which pc bluray drive for 3D?

Post by ultrarustic »

Heyy, I am new to bluray 3d.

Trying to get a side-by-side version of my b3d discs to my harddisk.

First - it seems a bit hard to find a disc drive that says it really supports bluray 3d.
Which ones can you recommend?

PowerDVD says my drive supports bluray, but not bluray 3d to play directly from disc.

MakeMKV still recognizes my 3d disc and offers two tracks (28,6GB each) to rip in this format:
Codec: Mpeg4 MVC High@L4.1/StereoHigh@L4.1
no 3D notice here either. it outputs movie_t01.mkv and movie_t02.mkv - which seem to be two identical files, but they run in 2d at least.

Do I have to change my setup first to get further here?

Got an external b3d player too, but it won't movies side-by-side to HDMI...

It's not the drive that "supports 3d", it's your playback software or hardware.

The "3d track" is just a normal data track the the transport stream, which you can tell MakeMKV to save or not save. You then need something that will read an MVC track within the MKV file and output the proper format for your display/TV.

Okay, but for some reason I never get a track titled "Mpeg4-MVC-3D"

I tried 3 different b3d discs and just get "Mpeg4 MVC High@L4.1/StereoHigh@L4.1"

Please see screenshots..

oh - just messed around a bit and downgraded to makeMKV version 1.14.7 and now the 3D track is there!

in latest version 1.15.3 it was not showing up - even after several re-installs...

The MVC (3D) track is there in your original screenshot. It’s nested under the AVC track.

AVC is the Mpeg4 video format. MVC is the 3D second-eye portion.

Multiple playlists for the main movie can exist for various reasons. Localization of things such as credits for different languages. Or a lot of discs will have one playlist for Eng/Fr/Spa audio and a second playlist for Eng/Japanese audio.

If SBS is your end goal, you will need to use another program to convert to SBS after you rip the movie. 3D movies are not stored as SBS on 3D Blu-rays.

This thread just a bit below yours may provide some helpful info for you:

The same disc looks different after downgrading makeMKV. Maybe just the description of the 3d track is different in that version?

Anyway - I can now watch the output MKV it in Bino Player - looks good there

Will now convert it with BD3D2MK3D to side-by-side - thanks...

Oh. Confusing - they really should switch it back.

Cus every tutorial says - watch out for the track titled "Mpeg4-MVC-3D" - and if it's not there it won't work...
