I am so glad this is alive! I have the same problem with both of those movies and then some. I dug up bunch of my old 3D Blu-rays as well and got myself an nvidia shield and a snology ds918+. My TV is an LG OLED656CP and I have 2 movies that have been ripped along time ago God knows with what but they work fine with Plex and Emby (Rogue One and Assassin's Creed). Unfortunately, I have ripped Avatar, gravity, clash of the titans with no luck so far. I thought maybe it was plex then I installed emby and I am getting the same results. Any guidance would be appreciated it! Thanks in advance!
I would bet that those older 3D rips are SBS half-HD and not frame packed full-HD. I'd like to keep the full-HD quality of the original. So far I have not found a combination that will play them as 3D on my LeEco Umax85. The TV has a 3D setting with choices of SBS, T&B and Auto. I do have an Xbox One X and a Philips UHD Blu-ray player. None of these will correctly play a frame packed full-HD 3D mkv. They do however, play SBS half-HD 3D.
I used BD3D2MK3D to reencode my MakeMKV MVC 3D rips into SBS mkv files. Below is what MediaInfo reports for each file. The amazing thing is the SBS reencoded version is 14.1GB while the original frame packed version is 44.3GB. Quality looks pretty good to my eyes.
