Trying to Distinguish 3D from 2D when Backing up BluRay Disc

Post by Kyioto » Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:59 am

Hi I was working on making a backup of The BoxTrolls Blu Ray Disc which has a 3d Version and the 2D version on the same disc.
MakeMKV is able to identify these two however I am not able to identify which is the 2D from the 3D when backing up.
the segment map for one is 800 size 21.7 and the other is 800/20800 size 31.9

Is there another way to tell which one is the 3D vs the 2D.

When you look at the Segment Map, commas separate different segments, while the slashes are indicating that there's two video streams there, one is the AVC component and the second is the MVC component.

Also, when you expand the title in the tree on the left side of the application, you'll see both the AVC stream and the nested MVC stream. You need to check the MVC stream to include it (it's not included by default). You can have MakeMKV always select the MVC track for inclusion by default with the default track selection rules.

For more information, including a screenshot illustrating the answer to your question, as well as the different ways that 3D vs 2D can be represented, I recommend that you check out the Blu-ray 3D FAQ.
