Post by heisenberg »

What drives are available currently?
External drives:

- Verbatim 43890 with Pioneer UD03 (310€). New and unused. Includes power connector and power supply. In stock: +10 units.
- ASUS BW-16D1H-U Pro with Pioneer BDR-212 (400€). Like-new & barely used. Includes the stand, power supply and all cables. In stock: 1 unit.
- Buffalo BRXL-16U3 with Pioneer BDR-209M (350€). OEM, like-new & barely used. Includes power supply and USB cable. In stock: 1 unit.

Internal drives:

- Pioneer BDR-S09XLT (275€). OEM, barely used, sourced from local office PCs. Out of stock.
Each drive has been opened and checked and been cross-flashed enabling support for 4K UHD discs (except for the Pioneer UD04 since it already supports UHD Discs out-ouf-the-box). I'm excited to share photos and videos of the drive whenever you ask.

How to purchase?
Please email me: verbatim-pioneer-drives@mailbox.org. Since the forum's been a bit unreliable lately, it's best to reach out via email.

Shipping and payment
I accept payment via PayPal and I ship within one business day through DHL within the European Union, the US, Canada, and Switzerland. Other countries are available on request, depending on the tariffs situation.

Shipping costs:
- within Germany 6.19 €, expected delivery time: 1-3 days.
- within EU 14.49 €, expected delivery time: 2-5 days.
- to US/Canada 26.49€, expected delivery time: 7-14 days.

Returns are accepted within 14 days if you are not satisfied with the drive. You will receive the shipment tracking ID immediately after payment. In the worst-case scenario, it will be provided a few hours later if the payment occurs outside European office hours.

Shipping to the US and Canada:
Please note that when shipping to the US/Canada, only packages containing personal gifts valued below 100 USD (US) / 150 CAD (Canada) are free of duty and tax. For this purpose, I'll ship the package as personal gift, put German sweets into the package and declare its content as "used Blu-ray drive and German sweets" valued below the above thresholds to make it feel more like a personal gift, even if the drive is new and unused. You can find more information about this here for the US and here for Canada. However, there's still a risk that you, as the recipient, may have to pay the duty if the government estimates the package content to be of higher value.

Please only order if you're okay with this. Fortunately, there haven't been any duties or taxes applied to any of my packages shipped to the US or Canada so far.

What is the difference between the Verbatim 43888, 43889 and 43890?
If your host device's USB port can supply enough current and you don't plan to watch UHD discs via PowerDVD with the drive, you won't notice any difference across those drives when using them with MakeMKV. The 43888 (Pioneer UD04) comes with a built-in AACS2 chip and thus, supports 'official' playback of UHD discs via PowerDVD, contrary to the 43889 and 43890. The latter only support unofficial playback via VLC and MakeMKV's decryption engine.

The 43888 and 43889 share exactly the same case and connectors, specifically a single USB-C USB 3.2 Gen 1 connector. To use these drives, ensure that your host device provides sufficient current through the USB port. My tests indicate that these drives require approximately 1,25 A of current.

The 43890 shares the same case as the other two but includes an additional power connector and power supply. It also comes with a Y-USB3.0-Micro-B to 2x USB3.0 cable. If your device's USB can deliver adequate current (approximately 1,25 A), you can connect just one of the USB connectors without needing the power supply. If you are uncertain, it is advisable to use the included power supply. So, the 43890 is an excellent choice for individuals seeking to minimize the risk of power issues or those uncertain about whether their host device supplies sufficient current.

Please let me make some comments here. I've been in contact with heisenberg and his offers here are solid and no scam in any way. If you are interested in a Verbatim drive with a Pioneer inside this is a chance you might not have again anytime in the future. Unfortunately the forum has again been very slow recently which keeps a lot of people away (including myself).

Yes, but shipping from Germany to the US is currently a bit tricky due to the tariff situation.

I can send the package via DHL for €26.49 (=$30.78) and declare it as a personal gift. Personal gifts valued below $100 are still exempt from duty and tax. There is a chance that they might estimate the package value to be over $100. If that happens, the recipient will need to pay the duty. You can find more details here: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/ ... u-go/gifts

So, long story short: if you’re cool with the chance of paying the duty, I’m happy to send the drive as a personal gift. I’ll throw in some German candy too, so it feels more like a personal gift.

I contacted heisenberg via email and asked about buying Verbatim 43890 with Pioneer UD03 last Saturday. Today, the drive arrived at my home, and it's working perfectly.

Unfortunately shipping to the US is really tricky but better to order something from China when you really don't know what you get. Here is a trusted seller who is just struggling with the tariff rules.

Update: I've got a few items of Verbatim 43888 drives with the Pioneer UD04 built-in back in stock. Shoot me an email if you're interested!

I prefer shipping within the EU, but I can still ship to the US if you're okay with it being labeled as a personal gift.

Update: By popular demand, I’m now also offering internal drives like the Pioneer BDR-209 and one external BDR-212. Plus, I’ve somehow managed to get a few new Verbatim 43888 (with Pioneer UD04) items back in stock just before being sold out.

After sending out some drives to the US, I'm excited to say that all shipments have gone through without any duties or taxes so far, and they’ve all been delivered in 8-12 days. :)

I have several Pioneer drives available:

External drives

New and unused slim external usb drives:

- Verbatim 43888 with Pioneer UD04 (300€)
- Verbatim 43889 with Pioneer UD03 (300€)
- Verbatim 43890 with Pioneer UD03 (310€) (includes power connector and power supply)

Each drive has been opened and checked. The 43889 and 43890 drives have been cross-flashed with the UD04 firmware, enabling support for 4K UHD discs. The 43888 already supports 4K UHD discs out-of-the box.

Like-new, barely used external drives:

- ASUS BW-16D1H-U Pro external USB drive with Pioneer BDR-212 (400€). Includes the stand, the power supply and all the cables. Already crossflashed to support 4K UHD Discs.

Internal drives

Like-new, barely used internal drives, sourced from local office PCs:

- Pioneer BDR-209 (250€). Already crossflashed to support 4K UHD Discs. Production date varies between 2015 and 2018.

Shipping

I ship within one business day through DHL within the European Union, the US, Canada, and Switzerland, and I accept payment via PayPal. Other countries are available on request, depending on the tariffs situation. Returns are accepted within 14 days if you are not satisfied with the drive. You'll receive the shipment tracking ID immediately after payment (at worst, a few hours later if I'm asleep due to the time zones, lol).

Shipping costs:

- within Germany 6,19 €
- within EU 14,49 €
- to US/Canada 26.49€

Shipping to the US and Canada:

Please note that when shipping to the US/Canada, there's a risk that you, as the recipient, may have to pay the duty since only personal gifts valued below 100 USD (US) / 150 CAD (Canada) are free of duty and tax. You can find more information about this here for the US and here for Canada. Please only order if you're okay with this.

I picked up one of Heisenberg's Verbatim 43888 drives shipped to the US. It arrived quickly, works perfectly, no additional duties were due on the shipment, and I have a newfound addiction to the included German candies. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

The postage will be 19,49€. I would send the package as a personal gift. However, please keep in mind that you will need to pay UK import VAT; see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/import-vat- ... y-on-gifts. If you're comfortable with that, don't hesitate to get in touch via email. :)
