Novice needs sales consulting

Greetings,
I am completely new to this forum and a novice when it comes to optical disc drives. I have used used them for both playing games/movies and burning but nothing beyond that (especially regarding to ripping movies). I am however not completely new to computers, having worked in IT for over 10 years now.
Now I want to buy a external Blu-ray player that can both play and burn disks. Those should include CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray. It should also be able to read and execute old installation disks of both games and hardware. But with that being said, I don't plan on using it regularly (though I do have a passion for preserving media, thus this may be subject to change).
I've read through the thread by asmcom where he listed some UHD friendly drives. But he especially stated that those are "not recommend using it for direct playback of movie discs" and as such I'm unsure whether or not his listed disks (the Hitachi BP55) are fit for my purpose.
I don't mind paying (up to) 100€ for a quality drive, perhaps even 150€ if it's the "top of the crop". Thus my question: Should I go for the offered Hitachi BP55 (if they are still available) or do you guys recommend other drives? I don't mind buying pre-owned one's if they are still in good shape. It would have to be sent to Germany though.
With kind regards,
DasMalzbier
