Get a 212. A friend of mine and myself did reading and burning tests. The 13s didn't perform any better than the 12s. A lot of yaddayadda by Pioneer. And these 12s are more affordable.

I'm tempted to buy the BDR-212 since there are plenty of them in stock and absolutely 0 of anything else. So I just want to know if that softmodded drive will be perfectly serviceable as a blu-ray/UHD workhorse, or if I should wait to get a nicer drive.

Specifically I'm curious about the difference between the 212 with 212UDK firmware vs. an actual 212UDK. the item names are self explanatory imo, I just wanna know if there are any performance/feature/reliability differences between the blu-ray drive with a 4K firmware injected into it vs. the one that comes OEM with 4K comparability.

In any case: thanks for the service you're offering here! beyond taking the work of flashing custom firmware off of my shoulders, it's just nice that I got some assurance that these drives will just work & that I won't have to hope & pray that the Pioneer drive I got off of ebay had the old firmware that will actually let me rip my dang discs.

Works almost exactly the same as a read UBK only difference is you can do official UHD playback but that's irrelevant with makemkv as you can rip UHD and unofficially play it.
