Will this backup UHD? I have several 4K movies I'd like to backup. Sorry if it's a newb question, I've just scratched the surface of doing this and I'd like to protect my collection of movies.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 9:59 pmIt can be flashed through me just email me see below for detailsEarl_H wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 7:12 pmForgive me if these are stupid questions. Newbie here.... I just pulled the trigger on a Pioneer BDR-212DBK drive. I selected it over the Asus BW-16D1HT. It arrives tomorrow so cant check any the drive info. After reading a bit, it seems like this drive cant be reflashed? Is this correct? If the drive can be updated for UHD use, do I just need the flash tool that you sell? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Note: I would have ordered a drive from you, but after reading page 1 and this page, it said that you were out of stock.

Thank you for the quick response. Please excuse my ignorance. I keep seeing posts about Libre. Will the 212DBK also have Libre? I read in a previous post that you will be offering XD08's, will these have Libre? I want to get the best I can for backing up 4K UHD movies. Buy once cry once hopefully.

So you can flash the 212DBK as well as the xd08 with Libre. I keep reading Pioneer is the best for reading difficult 4K UHD's. Is there any benefit to one over the other?Billycar11 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 26, 2025 11:19 pmYes my new xd08 will have have libre drive and UHD ripping capabilities

Hey Billy,
As I messaged before, looking for an external option. Is there one you're getting that would be the best for using MakeMKV to rip blurays and Ultra HD BRs?

So then would an internal drive and an enclosure be an option?

How are the XD08 compared to the XS07U?
I currently have a XS07U, but it seems to be really picky about what disks it will work with, and even on stuff it does read it will often spit the disc out multiple times before it starts reading it. Doesn't matter DVD, Bluray, or UHD, it does the same stuff, where it seems like it will spit it out right away without it even seeming like attempting to spin up first.

yes the xs07 motor is easily damaged by discs with stickers on them causing it to be unbalanced seen a few come back like that i took them apart and saw the disc would not spin up but if i gave it a helping push it would spin up fine almost like a motor with a bad start capacitorHellmark wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 2:47 amHow are the XD08 compared to the XS07U?

Are stickers on discs that common? None of mine have any stickers (I personally hate stickers, so avoid them whenever possible)

Ah, yeah, didn't think about libraries.
I wish that decent drives didn't seem to be unobtainium anymore. I bought mine right before they started shipping with newer firmware (people started talking about that like 3 weeks after I got mine), and kinda wish I had got another drive back then. I am tempted to get an Asus, but I keep hearing horror stories about a good number of them being defective.
