Direct playback isn't possible with none of the UHD drives. Doesn't matter if native or flashed.
Exception: You have a PC with an Intel SGX chipset and a software player that have no restriction for direct playback.
Just another confirmation you can play 4K discs on the fly thanks to makemkv and a libredrive Drive. In my case is very important. I never rip discs, I do buy them and play in my home cinema with a PC connected to a 4K projector. It's important because I use software to do HDR tone mapping (madvr) so I can get a great picture quality. Some projector enthusiasts watch movies this way but downloaded in the hard drive. I love to do it also with purchased discs.

Simple. Integrate an "unofficial" player such as VLC, MPC-HC etc with MakeMKV which then acts as the on-the-fly decrypter so the software player can play the movie. PowerDVD cannot be used as it is an "official" player and is NEVER recommended.
Damn, and here I was running straight to teamos distribution of PowerDVD23, it's been ok, although I was aware of some kind of catch to run via VLC and/or MPC-HC, I never knew the step or forgot it a long while ago.

Hello asmcom. My intention is only to playback 4k uhd blu-ray discs on my PC. Are these Pioneer drives for sale already prepared for this? Will I have to do anything else? How can I see the models and prices? I would like an internal drive. Thanks.

Just checked the eBay page and the dates changed again. It says they're away until the 16th February 2025. Not sure if its Ascom settings that it's just automatically updating.

See you all in 3 weeks, I suppose.

Hi there, I've seen that you are currently away but I would like to purchase a BDR-XS07TUHD when you return. Please let me know so I can make the purchase. I don't seem to be able to find you on Ebay for some reason (I've typed Asmcom into the advanced search for sellers but it returns nothing). Thanks

Good morning'y'all
Just commenting my experience.

A few months ago (already lol), i purchased one of the cheap models. The process was simple and i even emailed a few questions with a quick response.

When the disk arrived, i tried it, but it wasn't reading any bluray. It was properly detected by makemkv, but it wouldn't read any disk (even ones i knew worked a few weeks earlier).

I emailed asmcom about this issue, and he told me it was a "common" issue for these cheap models, and it will not refill stock of these models once it gets out of stock.

Anyways, he offered me to return it free of charge, which i did without issues. In the process (as i wanted a blurays anyway), i asked if there was any model without (or less) than this one, and i purchased it.

Asmcom added the complements (case and charger) without charge (even when i asked him i would pay it).

Since then, i'm a happy consumer and the bluray is still holding strong even after these months!

*Note: Seems like the faulty disk was the laser - probably from shipping -

When the disk fails again (hope it's not anytime soon), surely will buy it from asmcom again :D

@asmcom: First of all, I am sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope everything will be fine!

Once you are back, I'd like to buy a Pioneer BDR-S13E-X, which, according to the (probably outdated) stock listing (in the first post), is currently in stock. Ideally, I'd like to buy the BDR-X13E-X, but you are listing it as out of stock. Should that be incorrect, I'd be highly interested in buying the BDR-X13E-X, but if that's not possible, I'll go for a BDR-S13E-X.

It'd be great if you could message me once you are back to figure out the details! Thanks a lot :)

i'm following you on ebay. seems you will no be selling over that marketplace anymore.
i'm interested in buying a Pioneer / Verbatim BDR-UD04CC from you.

though i would also be able to buy one myself directly. verbatim 43888...
could flash the drive myself though would prefer to buy the ready made version.

@all
i was reading the there are two version of the verbatim 43888 drive. pioneer and lg version.
is there a big difference between those two?

tnx for the reply.
