LG WP40NB30 gets Stuck Reading Discs

Post by Tuvanen »

Having issues getting MakeMKV to read discs put in the LG WP40NB30, the system detects and reads discs correctly but MakeMKV just hangs whenever a disc is inserted (DVD or Blu-ray). I am aware that this drive isn't supported yet but I figured I'd ask in case someone had a work around I wasn't aware of

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr1

Revision: CW01
Serial number: KO4E3EE3747
Firmware date: 2013-11-20 12:34:56

always let the os see the disc first then open makemkv
never open makemkv and then put a disc in

For the problem of 1.17.6/7+ not working with a non-LibreDrive (on Linux), the best workaround is probably the sdf_Stop setting. See e.g. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41692

Per the original post the System can read the disc and drive just fine, VLC can even play Titles from a blu-ray (no menus but that's a java problem). it's only MakeMKV that has issues

unfortunately sdf_stop doesn't help, even running makemkvcon directly gets hung up when when listing discs whenever the drive has a disc in it

Have you checked whether the log file contains any extra logging, particularly lines with "sdf"? More precisely, have you confirmed that the log file would have different content before and after sdf_Stop is set?

As per what you have pasted, you have two drives connected to the machine. Is the other one flashed with an MK firmware? Or does it have a stock firmware (which would make it also a non-LibreDrive)? And if it is LibreDrive, do you also have the same problem when trying to open a disc through that drive?

i can't see a difference between the two modes unless i'm over looking something, in either mode makemkvcon only hangs when the drive has a disc in it
copied the content of the logs here:

/dev/sr0 wasn't originally a LibreDrive, flashing with the MK firmware made it start working and has been happily chewing away at UHD disks for the last couple of months without complaint. /dev/sr1 is the only one that's having issues

Although I'm not entirely sure but I think if you have set sdf_Stop correctly, the SDF lines for the drive of concern will not show up in the log.

Is this exactly what you have in ~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf?

Code: Select all

sdf_Stop = "HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_WP40NB30_CW01_20131120123456_KO4E3EE3747"

it appears i copied the wrong bit of text from the log into the sdf_Stop config, /dev/sr1 is working now. Thanks!
