PIONEER BD-RW BDR-S13U 1.04 stopped working?

I know this drive had firmware that LibreDrive didn't originally support, but I have been using it for a while regardless. I had it gathering dust this last year because there haven't been many movies I was interested in buying and putting on my server, but some movies my kids were interested in came out and decided to get them and put the on the server. During me catching up I find 1yr is a long time for MakeMKV and evidently more Pioneer drives are now supported since PIONEER got out of the optical drive game?
So I hooked my my external OWC enclosure w/ Pioneer BDR-S13U 1.04 only to find. NO, it doesn't work anymore AT ALL! Its worked fine for a couple years before it was left unused for a year. Figured maybe the cable went bad and swapped cables to find no changes. Now, I do understand drives can go bad just being idle, but I'm struggling to accept this could be the case for this drive in particular.
Are there any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this, as it never gets past these errors? reboot/cold boot power cycle of both laptop and drive with unplug/replug, replaced cable, all to no avail.

So far it appears either my enclosure has failed or the disc drive has failed. This is super disappointing.

So, remove the drive from the enclosure and either:
- install internally and connect to SATA if possible
- use an AC powered SATA to USB adapter (check the recommended list in the Ultimate UHD Guide 2026)
This will tell you if the issue is the drive or the enclosure.

I wonder if this has something to do with "bus encryption", since the disc you have been testing with(?) is apparently one of the latest (re-)releases. Have you tested with a disc that you successfully ripped in the past?
Read of scrambled sector without authentication
This somewhat sounds like MakeMKV did not actually / successfully / fully enabled LibreDrive. Could be the enclosure. Could also be a bug / regression in MakeMKV. (Is 1.18.3 the version of MakeMKV that you have been testing with btw?) Could also be irrelevant (as they seem to be trigger by automounting in your system; i.e. before MakeMKV enabling the LibreDrive / disabling bus encryption).

At what stage did you saw those? When you "open" the disc? Or at some point during ripping?
