Firmware downgrade not working

I bought star wars 8 and it wouldn't rip. The errors lead me to think the disc was defective. I bought the same title from another seller. Still won't rip, with a different error.

The problem does not seem to be with makemkv. Saving an iso image with gnome-disk also does not work. I successfully saved iso of other discs to make sure my drive is ok.

So I thought am I really this unlucky? Let's try to go back to an older firmware. The bad luck strikes again. The downgrade does not seem to work. Any idea why?

Code: Select all

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=usr/lib64/ makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 -f sdf.bin rawflash enc -i DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin

Reading input file DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Sending image in encrypted format
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_serial
Ready to write drive flash memory.
Type "yes" to continue, "no" to abort
yes
Operation started: Sending flash image to drive
 100% Operation finished
Operation started: Programming flash
 100% Operation finished
Done successfully
After the flash I run the command again to see the firmware loaded in the drive. It has not changed. Rebooting does not help.

I tried many other firmware versions. I never get an error but the firmware does not seem to stick.

Code: Select all

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=usr/lib64/ makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr0 -f sdf.bin rawflash enc -i DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin

Reading input file DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin
Flashing flags = 0x0 : 0 0 0 0 : ---- ---- ---- ----
Sending image in encrypted format
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS60_1.03_212005081010_serial

I was able to re-flash. Thank you.

My problem has nothing to do with the firmware or my drive though. I played one disc in my living room reader. It skipped at 2-3 moments in the movie. So that disc does have defects. I cleaned both discs last night (soap and water). I'm pretty sure the other disc also has defects because symptoms are the same. I'm able to extract other discs, so the problem really isn't my drive.
