Hi I wondering if I should try to update the firmware on my external bluray/dvd drive.
It seems to run fine with some discs and not others.
Thanks in advanced.

I think you can try firmware BU40N 1.00 or BP55EB40 1.00.
But please wait until another statement for your situation, I could be wrong.

Is there a way to backup the current firmware I have? I mainly use the Blu-ray drive to backup my 3D blurays for watching on my tv and in VR. Most discs have worked flawlessly except a couple of Disney discs (Brave and Cars).
Thanks again!

DO NOT TRY TO FLASH this drive. The MT1959 firmware is too old. Only drives from 2015 are supported and yours is from 2014.

I'm glad I found this. I also have the following. I bought this a few years ago from Amazon and just got into MakeMKV / Jellyfin server. While Amazon said this will play 4K disks, it never has. I am also running into issues with some blu ray that will not read on this drive, but I can stick it into an old Sony blu ray player and it plays just fine. My gut said .. firmware upgrade. Now I am seeing that it will probably brick it. Thanks for this post.

The BU20N is not UHD capable. Only the BU40N and BU50N are.
