BDR-UD03 crossflashed vs 212V?

Hello all,
I recently purchased a Verbatim 43890 (meant to buy a 43888 but misread the listing) that contains a BDR-UD03. This is flashable to enable UHD, but I have read that these drives have problems with discovering keys. Alternatively, I can get a Vinpower 212V, flash that to UHD, and put it in an enclosure.
Which of these would be the better choice from a reliability, noise, and speed standpoint? Will the 212V work for discovering keys?
Coopervid kindly sent me the flasher for the Verbatim w/ UD03 but I've been holding off on actually flashing it in case I return it for the 212V or something else.
