Changing drive serial number through firmware?

Is there an easy way to do this? I have made a 7 bay ripping unit and it would be nice to have all the serial numbers a little easier to discern, like Drive A, B, C, etc. I am going to be doing an 18 bay and that is going to get more messy when dealing with all those drives.

i think you emailed me about this like i said yes it can be done but only to lg/asus drives
and you would need to use dosflash.
but this has other side effects like this:

it seems to have no negative effects but still i wouldn't do it.
fyi background on that drive that guy bricked it by erasing cal data so i gave him cal data from a drive i used dos flash on back in the day so for him its better than a dead drive.
he really made it hard didnt use the dosflash i gave him and stuff made it take way longer.
mike would be able to explain exactly if that "WARNING: drive's signature of the Dv value seems incorrect!" matters or not but yeah having a mismatched sn or cal data the drive somehow knows but still functions.

I guess I am going to have to figure out some solution without changing the serial number. Setup time for multiple instances definitely takes longer, but once you know what drive is what, then it is a bit easier. Thanks again.

just put the last 4 of the sn on the drive with a label maker or something.
