Confusion about Pioneer BDR-X13E-S vs. BDR-X13E-X

Hi @ll,
I'm still confused about the Pioneer drives and the nomenclature - especially these two:
BDR-X13E-S
BDR-X13E-X
I understand that "E" means European market and "S"/"X" differentiates betweens internal external. ok.
But what else?
From the Specs on the Pioneer site they should be UHD-Compatible? So I can read UHD (how?)
but cannot use Libredrive?
Apart from that they look different... Copper vs. Silver stripe. Is it just the look or are there other technical differences known?

Don't buy any of these two as they come with firmware that makes it impossible to read or rip UHDs. You should buy from a seller in your region who has these drives with old firmware. Since you linked a EU web site you should check with asmcom.

the x13e-s is usb
the s13e-x is sata you got the model number wrong there
the ex/ux/jx all same have higher build quality and more sound deadening and have it all blacked out it not really worth it for the price difference.
but both of those drive need fw from before 12/22 or they wont work with makemkv and UHD
there is no way of downgrading them you must buy from a seller if you want one with old fw

Thanks. Will check for a drive from one of the sellers.
Will there ever be a possibility go flash a higher firmware version without degrading UHD capabilites?
In the past they usually fixed some burning quality issues with newer media...

if the developer releases MK fw yes but we dont know when or if that is going to happen.
the pioneer stuff will always ruin it now sadly

Highly recommend asmcom. Just explain your setup and what you are looking for.

Yes we have these from time to time, actually sold 5 of each today. We have a list of customers who have registered an interested when we acquire these drives.

It is an amazing service the resellers are providing here selling the pioneer drives with older firmware. I imagine these drives must be extremely hard to acquire.

Hi everyone, I hope this is helpful. I'm trying to summarize the features of the Pioneer
BDR-X13E/U/J - S/X drives.
Key:
E = European market
J = Japanese market
U = US market
S = External drive with USB interface
X = Internal drive with SATA interface
US Models:
•
BDR-X13U-S (US, external, USB):

Manual:

•
BDR-X13U-X (US, internal, SATA):
https://usa.pioneer/products/bdr-s13u-x
Manual:

Japanese Models:
•
BDR-X13J-S (Japan, external, USB):

Manual:
https://jpn.pioneer/ja/support/manual/m ... m_id=17351
•
BDR-X13J-X (Japan, internal, SATA):
https://jpn.pioneer/ja/pcperipherals/bd ... dr-x13j-x/
Manual:
https://jpn.pioneer/ja/support/manual/m ... m_id=17701
European Models:
•
BDR-X13E-S (Europe, external, SATA):
https://pioneer-blurayodd.eu/products/bdr-x13e-s/
Manual:
https://pioneer-blurayodd.eu/products/i ... X13E-S.pdf
•
BDR-X13E-X (Europe, internal, SATA):
https://pioneer-blurayodd.eu/products/bdr-s13e-x/
Manual:
https://pioneer-blurayodd.eu/products/i ... S13E-X.pdf
Summary:
Based on the european manuals, the main difference between the models lies in the connection interface: SATA for internal drives and USB for external drives.
I haven't found any other significant differences, but please let me know if you find any.
