Pioneer/Verbatim 43888 Firmware?

Hey all,
Just got my first drive in the mail today. The specs in MakeMKV indicate that the firmware should be okay but I'm not able to rip 4K and I'm also not getting any audio in my blu-ray rips.
I'm super new to this. I've tried to glean all I could from the forums but I'm not quite grasping what I could be doing wrong or what I need to do.

I'd suggest posting the specs so those in the know can maybe help?

Did you allow MakeMKV internet access so it can download the hashed keys for UHD ripping?
What does the log say?

Hey there!
Sorry I knew to do that and didn't.
MakeMKV v1.17.6 win(x64-release) started
Downloading latest SDF to C:\Users\randa/.MakeMKV ...
Automatic SDF downloading is disabled or failed.
Using LibreDrive mode (v01.0 id=489CDFD6D392)
Using direct disc access mode
Evaluation version, 30 day(s) out of 30 remaining
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Downloading latest HK to C:\Users\randa/.MakeMKV ...
Automatic HK downloading is disabled or failed.
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\randa/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v68_Once_Upon_a_Time_in_Hollywood_F22B.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

I have successfully ripped two UHD discs using a Verbatim 43888 drive with MakeMKV 1.17.5+, and so I am confident that it
can work. However, mine were both well-known discs whose keys were already available. FYI I have reason to believe that LibreDrive cannot read a UHD disc's VID value correctly with a Verbatim 43888, which would likely make its dump files useless for sending to
svq@makemkv.com to generate
new keys.

Is there a way to do this without having to pay for a VPN or proxy server?

Yeah try changing your DNS and geoblocking settings as I said

tbh I don't know how to change geoblocking. I was able to change DNS but that didn't help.

Geoblocking is usually a thing in one's router. Folks who have it generally know that they do. If you don't really know what that is, then you probably don't have it.
Hopefully you've read about
hashed keys. That's what MakeMKV is trying to download so it can decrypt the UHD you're trying to rip. If ripping UHDs is something you're intending to do going into the future, getting that work is something you're going to have to figure out.
There is the alternative, older method of using KEYDB.cfg. There are posts on this forum explaining how to use it. It might work.

I figured it out.
I had my firewall up. Also I was confused by "geoblocking" because there didn't seem to be any sources linking it to my router until that comment. With Xfinity, it's referred to as "advanced security" and can be disabled through their app.
Thanks everyone!
