CPU requirements for bluray

Post by Roybluray »

I have a AMD FX-6100 - FX-Series Zambezi 6-Core 3.3 GHz Socket AM3+
Can I use a Bluray drive for ripping just Bluray discs or do I need an Intel CPU? Could not find any CPU requiremnts just OS requirements.
Was looking at this drive ASUS BW-16D1HT - ultra-fast 16X Blu-ray burner

Essentially any CPU can be used.
Cheers :D

The CPU requirements are not known but, I *think* I have a Athlon 64 X2 in a machine that I used makemkvcon on, at least I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I know for a fact that it works on an i5-3570 CPU, which is from that same period and has basically the same instruction set (minus VT-x).

I don't know about Blu-ray but Intel is dropping their SXG from 11 and 12 Gen processors to decode UHD 4k.

Guess I will be looking for a new computer with older Intel Gen processor.

all of that is completely irrelevant with makemkv you dont need to worry about that cpu you have to rip or play 4K UHD movies you just need a bluray drive with the correct firmware.

Guess there is more to learn then. I'm just now getting into this to be able to play and rip Blu-ray and 4k.

Looked at many Blu-ray/4k drives, pioneer and Asus.

Could you suggest some drives to go with?
Thanks

I'm interested in getting one from you. Do have the Pioneer Sliver in stock ready to ship?

Forum rules don't allow transactions to happen on the forum. Email is a better choice for that stuff. His email is in his signature.
