Even if the firmware is after 12/2022? I thought that was the criteria when looking for a drive however didn't know if that recently changed since I'm currently in the market for one myself.
The statement about 208 or higher is only applicable if the firmware on these drives is older than Dec. 2022.
Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if something changed and someone found a way to get it to work on drives post Dec 2022 because I thought that might be a possibility down the road.
Mike is still working on a solution but it takes far more time than he expected in the first place.

I am completely new too this so I hope I am not bothering with an old question, but the new encrypted firmware date is Decemeber 2022, does that mean all drives manufactured December 2022 onwards as labeled on the box have the new 1.04 firmware or up or do drives manufactured on December 2022 itself possibly be ok?

If the date is Dec 2022 or newer then it's a no go, therefore, Nov 2022 or earlier is ok.
Cheers :D

I am looking into getting the Pioneer BDR-212 to add the mix of my LG BD-RE WH16NS60 collection. Is it still a issue that newer firmware not "cracked" yet?

My three LG BD-RE WH16NS60 are working fine with blu-rays and 4K discs. Although ran into a few that can't read the discs at all. So wondering if Pioneer BDR-212 can read them while LG drives can't?

Yes, still an issue.

Hi,
I am somewhat new to the game.
I used an internal drive until now and it worked great. I do not have a (working) caddy and I tried 2 by now.
So i bought a pioneer external UHD drive "BDR-XS07UHD" (I have a new PC so no internal Drive anymore).
I am unsure if this fits this thread. It says Firmware 1.01/ID05 and it seems to have LibreDrive enabled.
However, I can't rip anything: It simply stops after about 200MB - 300MB.

Those are my Drive infos (in german):

Code: Select all

Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: D:
Produzent: PIONEER
Produkt: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.01
Serienummer: BFDL006561WL
Firmware-Datum: 2020-09-03
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 13
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8E21
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS7
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.01/ID05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Keine Disk eingelegt
Usually I'd reseat the BD, but this does not help. Trying to scan the disk did not yield any usefull errors.
It is rather generic. My best guess would be, power? it has a barrel jack, but I do not have a power supply for it.
Any tips?

With sample disc (some anime)

Hi there,
I'm new to UHD-BD ripping and copying since I purchased a Pioneer Portable BDR-XS07TS from Asmcom guys (excellent service, they are super-recommended) and I'm looking for high quality BD-XL discs to make reliable backups of my UHD Bluray collection.
Do you have some brands to recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Writable Blu-Ray discs are not suitable for long term storage. M-Disc is marginally better but a hard drive is best. Your original printed disc is also reliable. Many MKV users use a networked hard drive system for playback and keep the original discs for backup. If you want to be doubly secure, keep two hard drive copies.

Also afaik most current 4k players cannot play burnt UHD disks. And none will play triple layer UHD disks.
All will play regular Blu Ray burnt 25gb and 50 gb disks.
All above is afaik

I believe the Panasonic ub900, not 9000, could play all burnt disks but it does not have Dolby vision

Thanks for your replies.
I also noted that even small BD-XL packs (5 discs) are very expensive so it's definitely more convenient to go with high capacity hard drives.

I found out, the target drive I was saving to got corrupted on the first try after about 200 MB...
It was a writing not a reading error...

Any updates for if 1.03 will be supported by MakeMKV?

New to this whole thing, is it that 1.03 will be supported its just a matter of time, or is 1.03 completely unable to be supported?

My drive is the Pioneer XS07

I think we just have to wait. From what I can understand, Mike will release updates when they're ready, he's not going to tell us anything about the progress until it's time.
