Just a heads up. LibreDrive did not work with my new Pioneer BDR-S13U-X. Backups do not work correctly on the discs that I've tried, but that's not surprising. I've emailed in the dump files and such but it's currently not working. I'm happy to run some tests and help out how I can.

Here's the info from MakeMKV for those who are curios.

Drive Information
OS device name: F:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S13JX
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: BKDL300033UC
Firmware date: 2022-07-26
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 77

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9201
Firmware version: ID72

No disc inserted

Are you able to add Pioneer BDR-XD08UMB-S please? Thank you.
I'm using this drive with firmware 1.00 with no problem.

There's newer firmware available; I'm waiting to see if someone reports that working before I update.
I have firmware 1.01 installed. I just emailed the dump file to support@makemkv.com. I'll post when it starts working for me.

Yes, send the file that was created to svq@makemkv.com and try it again in a day or three.

You do not appear to have downloads disabled, so it should work.

Possibly a stupid question. I'm fairly new here but purchased a BDR-S13U-X, which is showing up today. I noticed someone sent in the file for that model recently. What are the chances that it's already been added? Thanks for all you do!

The file for a movie isn't drive-specific; it's for how the disk is set up and the encryption found on the disk.

Whether or not something as been added depends on when someone encounters a "did not find a key". Some movies have dozens of keys, others have one.

mike_admin described the process for adding firmware support on page 24 of this thread. See below:

Here is the process for adding LibreDrive support.
First time MakeMKV sees a new LibreDrive-capable drive, it would produce a firmware dump file (named something like dump_FW_8D764A026549A275718D.tgz ) and would say something like "Please send this file to support@makemkv.com". The dump will be saved in the MakeMKV data directory (can be looked up in preferences). This happens once per drive/firmware, and MakeMKV won't be nagging you anymore.

For some (really old) drives the dump will be a big (few megabytes) file, containing the entire firmware - in this case just this dump is enough.
For most drives the dump file will be very small, few hundred bytes. The process to get a full dump is different per drive and tends to become easier, but to begin with I do need a small dump first. Without a small dump I might have no clue that this drive or firmware even exist.

Or just update your firmware from here:

https://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/i ... 01r_e.html
I appreciate you pointing out how to submit these dumps, but the instructions were on page 24? Really? Could he maybe attach that on the pin at the front of the thread?

I didn't get the drive into an enclosure until the beginning of the year. MakeMKV did exactly as you said in regards to newly ID'd drives and I sent the dump tar to Mike back on Jan 6. I did not know that was what (eventually) enabled it at the time; I just did because it asked and wanted to be helpful. I had gleaned from what I read in this thread, that it was a week or so from being listed here to being in the sdf file, so maybe I'm just jumping the gun so to speak. If not, I will be happy to re-send it to him if it got misplaced.

I also appreciate you pointing out the Pioneer update page, but the BDR-212V is not on that page. If there is an equivalent model that I should be using, please let me know. The BDR-X12 apparently does not refer to BDR-?12 as it appears to be an external model.

Mine isn't working yet but I just sent the dump in a few days ago and I'm sure these things take time so I'm patiently waiting. :)

From the research I did, it looks like it did work with the 1.02 firmware, but mine came with 1.03 and thus I got a dump file. I'm hoping it's an easy fix and have sent in my dump. Please send in yours as well when you get the new drive installed and good luck! The filename to send and email address will be in the log at the bottom when you fire up MakeMKV the first time with the new drive installed.

Hi,

I'm having an issue ripping a UHD disk with my newly acquired drive.

The message I get is:

LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD07U
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: ADD**********
Firmware date: 2020-08-20
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8D31
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS7
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.03/ID05
DVD all regions: Yes

Let me know what else I can post to assist with this issue. Thanks in advance!

MAC Ventura 13.2 trashed my Pioneer drives

Post by Dennis in Venice »

I post this elsewhere. The January Mac update of Ventura from 13.1 to 13.2 is not compatible with Pioneer drives. They don't work at all after the update.

I have three Macs and one of them hasn't updated. I tried my Pioneer BDR-XS06 and XS07 UHD on the Ventura 13.1 Mac and it works fine.

I have a Mac Mini (M1 chip) and an iMac 2020 (intel) both with Ventura 13.2 and the Pioneer drive doesn't work. The two Macs with 13.2 have bricked the Pioneers for now. I talked with Pioneer tech support and Apple. most of yesterday afternoon and Pioneer is aware of it and working on a fix. Apple is not aware of it but had me do a wipe of my hard drive and reinstall. It didn't work.

Don't update Ventura!!!!!

I'm trying to backup the new Dune movie UHD BluRay.
I have internet enabled in MakeMKV, but every other time I launch it, I get "Automatic SDF downloading is disabled or failed."

Nevermind Coopervid, It was my dumb router blocking IPs based on Geolocation causing the SDF and HK downloads to fail repeatedly. I found the answer on Reddit that pointed me in the right direction. Thanks!
