Cant make my new BU40N to rip

I bought this LG BU40N Slim Drive + Vantec Enclosure from one of the recommended sellers in the forum. It should be plug and play ready.

However I get this error report when I try to backup an UHD disc as you can see in the attachment.

I also get an error when trying to backup a normal bluray disc.

Any thoughts on this will be highly appreciated.

your second picture does not show it but im 99% sure up in top of the log it says hardware timeout on logical unit

drive needs more power use both plugs and or a high powered usb Hub like this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

That's what that message means? How on Earth would a user know that?

not always but for usb drives thats what it normal means in my experience.
because when drive does not have enough power it reboots and makemkv says its taking to long to respond.
it then boots back up and mkvmkv think LD is still loaded in the ram but its not because of reboot
and you get a bunch of illegal key exchange errors because of it.

Software can only do so much. As far as I know there is nothing in the USB spec that allows software to know how much power a device can draw from it's power source. All it can now is a device vanished from the USB chain.

Out of curiosity, what spec would list those log messages?

No it is stop talking about something you don't know about

You can see they say it works once they plugged in both cables

It also clearly states "Status: Enabled" w/ the accompanying 4 - "Yes"s. No need to patch.

Unless I misread, Mike also says so. LibreDrive firmware status

See section "supported - original vendor firmware: 68 firmware(s):"

HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.00-N003103-211612201528

But MakeMKV's word is usually good enough for me.

i guess if the OP wants to run really old firmware then sure, i prefer to use more current firmware as i find 1.02 way more stable for ripping

Fair enough, but that's a different can of worms. W/out change logs, it's hard to tell if a new F/W does more than just implement a new 'unfriendly' measure, or actually improves anything. I prefer to know before recommending out of hand. YMMV People seem a tad "flash-happy" these days. IMO Pax
