WH14NS40 1.05 error code 0x8f05c603

I keep getting this error code both when using the GUI SDFtool Flasher v1.2.0 or the command line makemkvcon64.exe tool to try to flash my new drive. See the screenshots below. What am I doing wrong?

As you can tell I'm a noob. I just want to be able to rip BDs into MKV files so I can watch them on all my devices. UHD isn't necessarily a big priority since my BDs will mostly be HD. Thanks in advance for any help.

Also his stock firmware is encrypted, so use the "enc" option.

The guide is here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634

It is a sticky post at the top of the UHD drives section. Your drive is new enough that it has an encrypted firmware which makes it harder to downgrade.

@Shozo,

You were also trying to flash the WH16NS40 1.02 firmware instead of the WH14NS40 1.05 firmware. When your drive has an encrypted firmware, you really need to flash the equivalent MK firmware first.

So, since your drive has 1.05 on it, you should flash WH14NS40 1.05 MK from the MK firmware pack first using the "enc" option. After this flash, you can then flash the drive to whatever firmware you want to use.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to successfully flash to WH14NS40 1.05 MK from the MK firmware pack.

So from here, will this MK version of the stock firmware allow me to rip BDs to MKV, or should I now flash to WH16NS60 1.02mk? And when I do this, I should leave "enc" unchecked right?

you should have flashed directly to WH16NS60 1.02 i dont think the enc option is needed any more but i always flash to undecrypted firmware you flashed to a firmware that is encrypted by default no sure if MK undoes that

The MK version is not encrypted.

WH16NS60 1.02-MK is recommended if you do not use Redfox's AnyDVD software. Also, now that you have flashed to a MK firmware, the "enc"
option is no longer needed for any further flash.

In the latest MK firmware pack (https://www.makemkv.com/download/mk-fir ... 200720.zip), the ver you recommended, WH16NS60 1.02-MK, appears to be in the old folder, whereas it has 1.03 in what seems to be the current folder. Should I still go ahead and do 1.02 instead of 1.03?

As Billy said, yes. 1.02 is better than 1.03.

Just flashed WH16NS60 1.02 MK and I'm currently ripping my first BD.

Thanks so much @MartyMcNuts and @Billycar11 for taking the time to provide so much help for a noob.

Now if I could just figure out once and for all whether it's better to use constant or variable frame rate when transcoding...

well the real answer is you shouldn't transcode but constant.
